The challenge

Rapid growth but the marketing needed to keep up

Breadalbane Finance are a team of dynamic commercial finance brokers providing professional and independent expertise to SMEs in Scotland and across the UK.

The talented team source tailored finance options to support business owners and engage with intermediaries to help their own clients.

After experiencing rapid growth since inception in 2013, founder Jamie Lindsay approached us to help with a full marketing review.

We kicked off with our MarketStreet workshop where we got under the bonnet of the brand, speaking to the whole team and key clients. We defined their values, positioning, target personas and key messaging, resulting in a clear and concise marketing strategy.

The first element was to create a new brand identity and site.

Rebrand

‘Breadalbane’ comes from the Scottish Gaelic word Bràghad Albainn, meaning the high ground of Scotland.

Breadalbane’s original logo depicted a mountain, an apt signifier for finance, as it can feel like you’re trying to conquer a mountain without the proper financial advice.

We stylised the mountain, simplifying it to triangle shapes. Triangles are the strongest and most stable shape, representing their industry knowledge and expertise.

We incorporated a bird shape, abstracted to a check mark symbol, soaring free above the mountains as a positive brand asset.

The fresh modern identity now reflects their new personality, values and team dynamism to accompany a new chapter of success.

Website revamp

The site’s structure and UX was shaped by our persona research, focused on their key audiences: business owners and intermediaries. Messaging was tailored to address each group’s specific challenges and needs.

We created a bespoke icon set for each core service along with handy FAQ guides to aid SEO, demystify financial terms and help answer common questions – all helpful for generating new enquiries.

Client stories and testimonials were brought to the forefront to support Breadalbane’s powerful referral programme.

Built in WordPress, the new site gives the Breadalbane team control over updates – from case studies and blog posts to new testimonials – making content marketing a seamless part of their ongoing strategy.

Campaigns

With a clear marketing strategy in place, we’ve partnered with Breadalbane over several years to deliver impactful, tactical campaigns.

Using MailChimp, we ran targeted and trackable email campaigns tailored to core personas. We also produced valuable content for blogs and social channels, developed PPC campaigns to attract new enquiries, and supported their client retention goals with consistent brand messaging.

We continue to support their SEO efforts today – helping Breadalbane build authority, improve visibility, and drive long-term digital growth.

Whisky packaging

To mark a milestone and thank their clients, Breadalbane Finance asked us to design labels and packaging for three special whisky bottlings.

We created a scenic illustration inspired by the Scottish hills, split across the bottles and tubes. Displayed together, the full landscape is revealed – a thoughtful detail that ties the trio together.

And now?

Since partnering with 39steps, Breadalbane Finance has gone from strength to strength. Their new brand and website now reflect the scale and professionalism of the team behind the name. With clear messaging and a joined-up marketing strategy, they’re better equipped to build trust, attract new clients and convert referrals – all while staying agile in a competitive market.
