Having launched a new website just ahead of their largest-ever appeal, Christian healthcare charity EMMS International are delighted with the ten-fold increase in donations it has facilitated.

Gary Brough, Communications Officer at EMMS, said

‘the new website launched at the beginning of the biggest appeal in EMMS International’s history, which saw 40% more website visitors and over 10 times more online donations. We’re thrilled to have a site that helps us to communicate clearly with our supporters and meets the needs of a growing charity.’

The Christian healthcare charity raised more than £500,000 in their recent Sunday’s Child appeal, a sum that was match funded by the UK Government. This appeal will help over 40,000 people in Malawi gain access to palliative care in their homes.

A great deal of planning went into the online donation function of the new website. According to creative agency 39steps, who designed and built the website, it was absolutely vital that donating was made as simple as possible. This meant optimising the site for a range of devices with a great deal of thought going into clear signposting and a simplified donation process. Steven Thomson, Director at 39steps said:

‘More than ever before, user experience has become crucial to achieving great results from websites. With so many different devices used to view the internet now, it’s vital to cater for people accessing websites on smartphones and tablets. Charities in particular need to keep up with trends in device usage. When you ask people to give money, you want to make that experience as straightforward as possible’.

One of the great things about the new website is how easy it is for EMMS International to update. The website has been built using the Concrete5 platform, a Content Management System (CMS) streets ahead of many rival platforms in how it enables website editors to add and edit content easily. The platform allows EMMS International to set up engaging appeal pages quickly and easily. These pages have bespoke donation forms which the charity can customise with amounts relating to specific charitable aims. Steven was keen that donators should also be able to choose where their money was going and the site allows them to do this in a number of ways, saying

‘we were pleased to deliver a platform that allows EMMS International to maximise the targeting of their projects and appeals, while empowering users to tailor their donations. They can choose to donate to specific <ahref=”https: www.emms.org=”” vital-work=”” the-places=”” “=”” target=”_blank”>countries or areas of healthcare or to where the need is greatest. They can also donate to specific projects and of course to individual appeals, as well as purchasing gifts for life alongside making monetary donations. As time passes the data that EMMS International are able to glean from this will help them to more accurately target specific appeals and projects to achieve even greater results’.</ahref=”https:>

Gary said, “The 39steps team are a pleasure to work with and have been invaluable as we watched our new website go from post-it notes to “go live”. We’re thrilled to have a site that helps us to communicate clearly with our supporters and meets the needs of a growing charity’.

The launch of the EMMS International website adds to 39steps’ growing list of not-for-profit clients, including Sniffer, ClimateXChange, Scottish SPCA, SCCYP, Scotland Malawi Partnership and Spifox. They are currently working on a new mobile-friendly website for a prominent Scottish charity set for launch in the Summer. To find out more about 39steps’ services, please contact us for a chat.
