Today’s muffin experience was akin to meeting a staunch Belarusian woman on the Aŭtazavodskaja line of the Minsk Metro. Confronting at first sight, but soon allays one’s fears with a gentle but crooked smile. She is carrying a wicker basket of crimson fruit in one hand, and a bar of white chocolate in t’other. Where is she going? We cannot be sure. One thing we do know is that she is no harm to us, a reminder of the pleasant and unassuming lifestyle many seek in this part of the world. If she were to bake a lemon drizzle cake, it would be very good indeed.
