what is a domain name?
A domain is your web address, e.g. www.yourcompanyname.com. It must be unique, and it can’t contain special characters (although the hyphen is okay). Your choice of domain name can be a crucial part of your online marketing strategy; sometimes choosing a more generic domain with keywords will result in more ‘organic’ traffic than one which uses a relatively obscure company name (eg www.joebloggsltd.com vs www.bloggslowpricewidgets.comHYPERLINK “http://www.bloggslowpricewidgets.com/” ). That said, if your company already has an established brand or the website itself will have high-quality text which comprehensively discusses the business you’re in, the choice of domain may be of less importance. Your marketing team will be able to help you make an informed decision, based on sound research as to which route to take.
Any business person worth their salt will also have an email address that uses the domain (ie: mramazing@yourcompanyname.com). This looks professional and credible. We’re still staggered by how many people miss a trick and don’t bother to do this, yet they do have a company domain name. Make sure you’re not one of them!
